National Geographic is full of gems

I love thumbing through them when visiting my mom.  A friend handed me a copy of a recent issue of the old-school mag to read an article about white bears.  Not polar, not albino, but a recessive trait of black bears.  Pretty cool.  I love/fear bears.  But I totally LOVE this photo of an awesome writer/former Green Party candidate in the UK feeding her rescued battery hens on her London rooftop.

Cool article and pics.  European laws finally toughening up on cage standards.

Blue balloon fever

Found this whilst strolling around online, fell for it instantly.

It's a balloon mouse in progress.  I'm thinking I need to pick up this craft asap.
In order, at bare minimum to make gorgeous video stills.  First up, a white tiger.

Balloons have popped up in my art before, in both videos and paintings.
This is from a piece a couple years ago, called "Can't hold onto you."

All is Golden

March 1st is exciting.  Just last night waves of newness and opportunities from friends far and wide came in, just as I'm making a move into my last house of my Florida stay after a crazy February.  New York creeping back into my dreams and mind, always in my heart.  Golden animals abound in the form of wall hangings, memories, and metaphors.

"it is far lovlier, far more spectacular than i dreamt it could be."

A Fine Shiner

I got a Valentine's shiner.  Seriously.

From my front wheel popping off my bicycle in the rain.  Oddly enough, I'm one of 5 gals (one of which is my own mom) who have had black eyes thus far in 2011.  Snowy falls, fridge doors, narcolepsy on linoleum...not a single cat fight among us.

Every morning I wake up curious to see what's happened while I slept.  It morphs each day. Today the hues make me think of a meteor shower or some other wildly-hued planetary landscape far in space.  It also makes me think of this toy I had growing up that I thought was my own magical little universe - those wonderful little squares of plexiglass backed with white vinyl you can press on and move around some kind of multi-colored goo.

I need one immediately.

I may be about to embark on a mad ebay hour.

Our bodies are cool when they heal.

"I Wish Your Wish"

Recently, the New Museum had a mid-career show of the Brazilian artist, Rivane Neuenschwander called, "A Day Like Any Other."  I didn't make it but my bff and her husband did and raved.  It's easy to see why.  Colorful and sweet, strong and filled with curiosity and compassion.  A tenderness and an accessibility.  A call to participation.

Many great works, but below a sampling from I Wish Your Wish.

Thousands of ribbons printed with collected wishes from strangers/viewers in the past displayed.  Visitors invited to take one and replace with a piece of paper on which their own wish is scribbled.  Poignent, sad, uplifting and beautiful and wonderful!
